I first heard "Let it Be Me" at the end of the Criminal Minds series, this past summer. Tears rolled down my face. The words, your voice was.....magic.
It was on a day when I was feeling low. I snapped out of my slump and
picked myself up. I bought my son, Andrew, a guitar so he could learn how to play. He'd been asking his dad and I for a guitar so I decided that this was a great time to stretch and expand his love and appreciation for all types of music.
As a child, I always dreamed of playing the guitar but my parents could not afford lessons. I marveled at the beautiful sounds that exploded from the guitars at Sunday mass. I still do.
After 23 years of teaching, I still look for ways to inspire and motivate my students. Sometimes it is so hard! Giving up and throwing in the towel is for quitters. That's not what great teachers do. We keep going!
This year my goal is to use music to inspire and bring hope to my 6th graders by using songs like yours---- into their lives. My colleagues and I are planning to write grants to purchase guitars for our children. We believe that if children believe in themselves--anything is possible.
I just wanted to let you know how you have touched the lives of my children. We sing, "Let It Be Me" several times a week. We may even put it on u tube for you to see. If you are ever in Park Forest Ill. please stop by------ we'll sing it to you. And with a little luck and a lot of prayer we may even play for you!

I have to agree, his music is like the soundtrack to my own life. I am 27, and appreciate many genres of music. But in a time where most any ridiculous, trendy tune can make it to the top of the charts, Mr. Lamontagne's music is more than just refreshing. It is a wake up call to all in the music industry. So much today is overproduced and the artist way over publicized in the name of sales. The music is lacking any real substance or vocal achievement, touching nothing in your soul nor heart. Lamontagne music is answer to a generations cry for something more than the "fluff" we have been spoon fed for so long. If you can't sing it live don't record it that way. Take a que, so called artists out there. Ray Lamontagne is the real deal! No smoke or flash here. His voice and lyrics are straight from his soul and somewhere down deep in his heart where he shines a light on what he feels there for us all to hear and connect with. Pick any track of his and it could easily be played on the radio back 40 years, or more, up to now and seem like it belonged there. One big reason being, there is something all great music shares in common and that is the truth of the human experience. We all know that when we hear it. And damn, what a voice to boot! Keep on making music my man and I can dance to barefoot on the porch! Thank you Ray, I can never stay mad at him when he plays any of your songs for me. I am sure he thanks you too!
